The following message will appear when a member attempts to register for a membership level they have already joined.
“The username you chose already exists. Please try another one.
If you are already a member and are upgrading your membership access, please select the “I have an existing account” option below.”
This message is typically seen by members who try to login using a registration form (and not a login form).
In these types of cases, the member likely came across the Existing Members login option that appears on Registration Forms.
Please read the description below for more details on the Existing Members login option on the Registration Forms.
There is an option on the Registration Form that allows existing Members to simply login after they have paid to upgrade or gain access to an additional Membership Level.
This can also be done for free membership levels as well.
A user can click on the Payment button to upgrade/purchase additional Membership Level and then sign in using the “Existing Member” login INSTEAD of filling in the Register Form.
If the membership level is free, then the member can just use the “Existing Member” login option on the registration form without needing to pay.
You can create a payment button that allows people to sign up for the Membership Level and IF those people are already members of another membership level, they can use their already existing User Account.
The same applies to a free membership level except that they don’t need to purchase first.
Also, be sure that the “Disable Existing Users Link” option on the membership Level is not checked. If this setting is checked, it removes the option for Existing Members to Login.
If you need to insert a Login Form or include the WishList Member Widget (or both) to allow members to login correctly, adding the login form to a post or page is a quick process.
You have the ability to add a specific Login Form Shortcode to an page or post which will insert the login form.
Login Form Shortcode:
Add that code to the content section of a page or post to insert a login form.
Note that this does not need to be added to the HTML of a page or post. It can simply be added to the content area.
There is also a Mergecode and Shortcode insert option that appears on Pages and Posts. This feature was added in WishList Member 2.8 and is included in the latest versions of WishList Member.
This is a quick way to add codes to a page or post.
WishList Member Widget:
You can add the WishList Member widget to your site by navigating to the Appearance > Widgets section of WordPress.
The WishList Member widget will be available in the list of widgets. The WishList Member widget can be dragged from the list of available widgets to the sidebar on the right (like any other widget). This action will add the WishList Member widget to your sidebar.
The WishList Member widget includes a login form that members can use to login.
The widget itself follows the same styling as your other sidebar elements so if you would like to customize it in any way, it would need to be done within your WordPress theme.
